Actuarial Specialist
The Pricing team at Gore Mutual is rapidly expanding. We are looking for exceptional talent to join our team as an Actuarial Specialist and act as a key contributor while continuing to grow our actuarial strategy. A highly collaborative role that involves developing, maintaining, and implementing pricing models, you’ll be the “go-to” resource for the greater Pricing & Actuarial team.
Reporting into the Pricing Director, you will independently focus on specific actuarial projects and will be considered a subject matter expert in your domain. Your insights, thoughts, and suggestions will carry weight and be incorporated into the final work product.
Responsibilities & Expectations
- You will independently analyze and peer review actuarial projects and be able to provide recommendations to management.
- Possess a full understanding of data means, interpret it effectively, draw meaningful conclusions and mentor less experience analysts.
- Build or maintain complex actuarial or predictive models and provide technical direction to less experienced team members.
- Work closely with the management team to incorporate business considerations into the technical model for implementation purposes.
- Conduct independent research and independently identifying potential solutions and strategies.
- Prepare reports and presentations for external stakeholders and offer other implementation support.
- Effectively communicate your work to other members of the actuarial team, including presentation to actuarial leadership and other departments.
Skills You Will Develop:
- You will be respected as a subject-matter expert, not just within the actuarial department, but also in other departments.
- Effectively be able to communicate your thought process to fully justify your actuarial selections on peer review, as well as perform effective peer reviews of work done by others.
- You will work with members of other departments to put together product ideas, implementation proposals, saving initiatives, etc.
What You Will Need:
- 5 – 9 years in Actuarial or equivalent roles is preferred.
- Specific domain/line of business knowledge required.
- FCAS / FCIA designation with expectations for significant experience with ACAS / ACIA designation
- Full qualifications are not required but we encourage completion
Permanent, Full-Time
Hybrid: This is a hybrid role that includes the flexibility to work remotely. Please note, regular in-person workdays at one of our Cambridge / Toronto / Vancouver office locations are expected 2-3 times a week.
